PostSubject: help needed!!   Thu Aug 27, 2009 5:17 pm

hi all, i have just bought my 1st car and came accross a 1991 jetta but i think the steering is far too heavy and want to convert to power steering.
what im asking is....is there anyone from the yorkshire area that could do the work for me as i dont know one end of a spanner from the other lol.
i could get the parts if needed but im sure that the jetta lovers may be able to find em cheaper than me??
as for my old parts taken off...well you can keep em for all i care as i just want light steering.obviously i`ll pay for new parts and labour....unless you are a dj and want 400 vinyl tunes Wink
well i hope someone can help as i dont really wanna get rid of it but if i cant get it sorted then its def going.....i`ll buy toyota prius!!!

Welcome! Firstly go to the scrap yard (assuming yours is a 1.6 or 1.8 8 valve) grab the rack, pump, pipework, reservoir, belts and crankshaft pulley and fit it to yours, its dead simples! If yours is 1.3 I don't think VW put it on.

Personally I find mk 2 Golf and Jetta PAS too light and prefer the feel of a proper rack.

thanks to all you guys who have given good advise, its much appreciated.
if my grease monkey aint too pricey,i`ll be putting on 2 new rear shox, sorting out the steering, putting oil in gearbox, new brake pads, new plugs, air filter, oil filter.
hopefully after all this stewie will be much better to drive and if thats the case then i`ll keep the delinquent child lol.
i was really gutted when i realised i had bought a complete dog,but like the missus said....its an old hat so its gonna need spending cash on(what she dont realise is that its her cash pmsl)
well guys,i`ll get it all done then i`ll let you all know.
once again...."cheers"

stewie has returned from the grease monkey and he has had 2 new rear shox and the seats replaced as they were rotten all the way thru, cost the missus 225 quid!!
front end feels so hard now(poss needs the same?)
gearbox still feels wank...stick has loads of play and it feels as if there is no `H` to follow to find each gear???
is this simply a new gear selector needed?
wish i had paid more attention @ school now lol
well im open to idea`s guys

cheers
ash

Try a new clutch cable on its first, yours might be stretched. Plus its a cheap place to start before doing the clutch.
